Abstract
The increasingly complex global refugee crisis highlights the significant vulnerability of refugees to mental health issues. Traumatic experiences prior to displacement, stress during the journey, and challenges adapting to the destination country contribute to the high prevalence of disorders such as post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and anxiety among this population. Social work, with its holistic, rights-based, and strength-centered approach, plays a crucial role in mitigating these impacts and promoting the psychosocial well-being of refugees. This literature review aims to analyze in depth the contribution of social work in supporting the mental health of refugees in various international contexts, identify effective intervention models, and explore challenges and opportunities in practice. The method used is a systematic literature review of peer-reviewed journal articles and international organization reports from 2015 to 2025. The review results show that social workers implement community-based psychosocial support, case management, policy advocacy, and culturally sensitive interventions. This article concludes with recommendations for evidence-based practice and future research directions to strengthen the social work response to the mental health needs of refugees effectively.
